Arcis Golf to reward top players in three Sunshine State events

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Florida
(Sept. 21, 2020)
—The LOCALiQ Series recently passed the halfway mark of its season and now descends on Florida for three consecutive events, beginning with this week’s Jacksonville Championship.

Monday, Series officials announced the creation of the Arcis Golf Florida Swing, which will reward the leading points-earner from the three Sunshine State events with a bonus of $7,500. The second-highest points earner from the three Florida tournaments will pocket $2,500.

The three Florida tournaments are the:

  • Jacksonville Championship at Hidden Hills Golf Club (September 23-25)
  • Challenge at Harbor Hills in Lady Lake (September 30-October 2)
  • Classic at The Club at Weston Hills in Fort Lauderdale (October 7-9)

Arcis Golf is the premier operator of public, resort and private golf clubs in the United States. Its current portfolio of 60 properties located coast to coast in 13 states includes The Club at Weston Hills.

“We are extremely pleased with the support Arcis Golf is providing the LOCALiQ Series. From making The Club at Weston Hills a tournament site on our 2020 schedule to the creation of the Arcis Golf Florida Swing, we couldn’t ask for a better partner,” said Rob Ohno, the PGA TOUR’s Senior Vice President, International Tours. “In everything we do, we keep our players in mind, and giving them a world-class golf course in which to play the Classic at The Club at Weston Hills and for them to have the Arcis Golf Florida Swing as another incentive is a significant addition to the Series. We can’t thank Arcis Golf enough.”

Players who make the 36-hole cut collect a paycheck from every LOCALiQ Series tournament. In addition, those who complete all 54 holes at the three Florida tournaments receive points based on their performances, and the Series will track those points in weekly standings following each of the three events. The Arcis Golf Florida Swing culminates its three-week run at the Classic at The Club at Weston Hills—the final 54-hole event of the season. The LOCALiQ Series season concludes with the limited-field, 78-player LOCALiQ Series Championship Atlantis Bahamas, currently schedule for late-October.

“We enjoy our long-time association with the PGA TOUR, and supporting its LOCALiQ Series is an ideal way to grow the competitive side of the game, as well as showcase one of our premier clubs,” said Blake Walker, founder and CEO of Arcis Golf.

“Competitions such as the Arcis Golf Florida Swing, a challenge within the larger competition, are always compelling and create additional enticements for the players as they continue to grow in the careers,” Ohno added. “Arcis understands that, and we appreciate its support of the LOCALiQ Series.”

Iron Horse

Re-Opens to Public on Sept. 19

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (Sept. 8, 2020) – Iron Horse Golf Course—the popular 18-hole municipal course owned by the city of North Richland Hills, Texas, and managed by Arcis Golf—will formally re-open to the public Saturday, Sept. 19, following an extensive $3 million renovation.

The Iron Horse Golf Course renovation, which was overseen by Jeff Brauer, a noted golf course architect based in nearby Arlington, included:

  • Widening playing corridors throughout the course
  • New irrigation on 12 of the 18 holes
  • Updating the 13th and 14th holes
  • New Better Billy Bunkers throughout
  • A new set for forward tees that play at 4,300 yards

The project started in November 2019 with Dallas-based Fleetwood Services handling the construction work.

“This project has been fully embraced from the outset by the city as well as the community,” said Jerred Gibson, General Manager, Iron Horse Golf Course. “We couldn’t be more excited to show off all the outstanding upgrades that have been made to this much-loved course.”

The 18-hole public facility hosts more than 50,000 rounds a year. It was originally designed by Dick Phelps and opened in 1988 in a picturesque setting among the rolling terrain of North Richland Hills. Constructed in a floodplain, the course had been impacted by drainage issues, necessitating the renovation.

“The primary focus of this project was to correct the fact there was either too little or too much water on the course,” said Brauer, who designed the acclaimed Cowboys Golf Club in Grapevine, Texas, another Arcis Golf property. “The irrigation and drainage issues have now been corrected.

“The City of North Richland Hills, Arcis Golf, and Fleetwood Services all were great to work with,” Brauer continued. “Everybody did their part to make this renovation a huge success and focused on enhancing the overall golf experience. The city was very smart to make the investment and fix what needed to be addressed. It is money spent wisely and serves as the prototype for how most public course renovations should be carried out.”

Brauer explained sodding was done wherever the course was disturbed during the project: “It may be more expensive, but it’s also the best flood insurance available.”

The look of the 14th hole has changed it considerably, although it is still a par 3 featuring a panoramic view of the Fort Worth skyline from the green.

Significant work also was done to improve the cart paths, which will be driven on by a new fleet of ClubCar carts.

Iron Horse Golf Course is named for the still-active railroad that runs through the property, and as part of the course’s charm three authentic caboose cars serve as on-course facilities.  The exceptional golf experience is complemented by an expansive practice facility, a world-class golf shop, and a variety of delicious dining options.

Upgrades also were made to the Clubhouse, including new indoor and outdoor furnishings, chairs and tabletops, and bathrooms. The Pro Shop was reconfigured, as well.

“Since its debut more than 30 years ago, Iron Horse Golf Course has consistently been one of the Dallas-Fort Worth area’s finest and most celebrated mid-priced municipal courses,” said Oscar Trevino, Mayor of North Richland Hills, Texas.  “We salute the golf course operations team, Jeff Brauer, Fleetwood Services, and everyone who worked on the project as we are confident the renovation will be met with great acclaim and continue the Club’s iconic tradition. The facility — from the course to the Pro Shop to the Clubhouse — is nothing short of first class and understandably, a great source of pride for the community.”

Canyon Springs

SAN ANTONIO (Aug. 10, 2020)Canyon Springs Golf Club, one of San Antonio’s premier golf destinations, will re-open Saturday, August 15 to the public following a four-month course renovation project.

The par-72, 7,077-yard course now boasts new TifEagle Bermuda greens and Zoysia collars. In addition, the comprehensive course renovation project included bunker reshaping and agronomic enhancements from tee to green.

“The new TifEagle greens will provide golfers with one of the area’s premier putting surfaces and allow for Tour quality speed and consistency,” said Chris Fink, General Manager of Canyon Springs Golf Club. “Our recent renovation enhances Canyon Springs status as a must-play course for golfers who live in or who are visiting the San Antonio area.”

Designed by architect and former Vice President of Gary Player Design, Thomas Walker, Canyon Springs opened in 1998 to immediate praise and was named “America’s Best New Public Golf Course” by Golf Digest and GOLF magazines. Located in an authentic, natural setting, golfers share the environment with longhorn steer, deer, and other wildlife.

The club sits on a historic Hill Country homestead — a 55,000-acre site, once the J.W. Classen Ranch — with several original elements enhancing the course’s surroundings, including a centuries-old rock well on the second hole, windmills, native stone accents and more. Canyon Springs’ signature hole — the par-4, 400-yard 18th —features a limestone waterfall, adding beauty and drama to one of the most exciting finishing holes in the Southwest.

Canyon Springs Golf Club is owned and operated by Dallas-based Arcis Golf, one of the company’s 18 clubs within Texas and 61 clubs in the United States.

Complementing this award-winning golf experience, Canyon Springs Golf Club boasts a warm and welcoming staff, charming clubhouse, and an array of services that make the club one of the Texas Hill Country’s most desirable dining and event venues.

The club is planning future enhancements to the food and beverage experience, including two, on-course roving refreshment carts, a building renovation and menu updates at the soon-to-be rebranded Cliffhaus restaurant.

The club’s authentic Texas Hill Country vibe is highlighted by country music, the smell of savory smoke, and the taste of Texas BBQ woven throughout menus at Cliffhaus and the 19th Hole Bar & Grill.  New menu selections will include house-smoked meats, Tex-Mex favorites, and Arcis Golf’s signature Crushburger and hand-cut fries.

The golf course renovation and upcoming food and beverage upgrades are part of Arcis Golf’s dedication to reinventing the modern club and guest experience.

“Arcis Golf is committed to enhancing service levels, amenities, and experiences at our facilities nationwide,” said Blake S. Walker, Founder and CEO of Arcis Golf. “Canyon Springs is one of the very special courses in our portfolio and being able to bring it to the next level will solidify its pedigree among both San Antonio and Texas’ top public courses.”

This era of Coronavirus and social distancing can lead to strange bedfellows. In the case of Arcis Golf Partners and the TOROSIETE Museum of Contemporary Art, the need to go virtual forged an unusual team.

A top operator of public and private golf clubs in the U.S., Arcis Golf runs 61 properties in 13 states. Meanwhile, the TOROSIETE Museum of Contemporary Art is an online, virtual museum celebrating emerging contemporary artists worldwide. The golf club operators and 21st century art museum came together recently to create and promote a new virtual gallery exhibition for members of Arcis clubs.

The partnership is part of Arcis Golf’s ongoing efforts to reinvent the modern golf club experience by introducing arts and entertainment. The TOROSIETE exhibits allow club members to enjoy contemporary art in a “real time, true-to-scale environment” as if they were there in person.

According to Ferdinand Ocasio Tomlin, President and Curator of TOROSIETE, the gallery will offers exclusive video content, artist documentaries, and Q&As to provide insight into the inspiration and stories behind individual paintings. More than 30 artists representing more than 10 countries will be included.

“The members will be able to develop a close relationship with our artists, which is something you can’t get in a physical museum or gallery,” Tomlin says. “Plus, with our platform, we can bring exhibitions from all over the world to our viewers. We will never replace physical galleries and museums, but we can put people ‘inside’ the exhibition to provide a more in-depth experience.”

The first two artists featured in the Arcis and TOROSIETE virtual partnership are Cuban native Noel Suarez (longtime resident artist aboard Oceania Cruise Lines) and Beatrix Ost (artist, writer and fashion designer). Arcis members will have the option of purchasing original pieces of artwork, or hand-signed, limited edition fine art prints.

According to Blake S. Walker, Founder and CEO of Arcis Golf, the new working relationship with TOROSIETE provides club members with an interactive and immersive experience celebrating the best of emerging contemporary artists.

“Now more than ever, each of us finds ourselves searching for both a greater sense of connection and community,” Walker says, recognizing the challenges of enjoying art and recreation during a pandemic. “We are proud and honored to bring forward such rich curated experiences, bespoke content and more for our members to enjoy.”
