DALLAS, Texas June 13, 2017 — Los Robles Greens—the Arcis Golf-managed municipal golf course in the City of Thousand Oaks, Calif.— has earned “Renovation of the Year” honors from Golf Inc. magazine.
After a complete makeover undertaken in partnership with the City of Thousand Oaks, Los Robles Greens was awarded second place in the annual competition, which judges projects based on achieving stated renovation goals, improvement in playability and maintainability, and course aesthetics. Winners are featured in the current edition of Golf Inc., a respected golf and club industry trade periodical.
“This award adds to the huge success of the Los Robles renovation,” said Jim Oliver, COO of Arcis Golf, the premier operator of public and private golf clubs in the United States. “It serves as a tremendous compliment, not only to Arcis Golf, but to the City of Thousand Oaks and staff at Los Robles Greens.”
The renovation of Los Robles Greens included the removal of more than 30 acres of turf grass, as well as a redesign of the irrigation system that is projected to save up to 25 percent in annual water use. Reducing the amount of turf grass also means less use of fertilizer, pesticides, and fossil fuels.
“Through turf reduction, irrigation efficiencies, and the use of native, drought-tolerant plants, Los Robles is leading the way in golf course sustainability,” said Thousand Oaks Mayor Claudia Bill-de la Peña. “We are proud of the honor and thank our partners who helped make the project possible.”
Other aspects of the renovation, which was designed by Fry/Straka Global Course Design, include widened fairways, the removal of one water feature, and the implementation of more natural-looking bunkers.
Also, some 40 acres were converted to native areas planted with selected drought- and pest-resistant vegetation that will create natural mulch for use throughout the golf course.
“The innovative work that has been done is setting a new standard for golf course maintenance,” Oliver added, “not just locally, but nationally. It has been a terrific collaboration.”
Over the past two years, Dallas-based Arcis Golf has allocated more than $50 million for capital improvements to its portfolio of 68 public and private facilities nationwide. More investment and renovation work is already planned for Arcis Golf’s diverse collection of facilities.
This is the latest of several significant awards for Arcis Golf properties recently:
- Arrowhead Golf Club in Littleton, Colo., was ranked No. 1 golf club in three categories by Colorado Avid Golfer magazine’s “Best in State” awards.
- The Club at Ruby Hill, an elegant private club overlooking Northern California’s lush Livermore Valley wine country, earned the “Award of Merit” from the International Wine Society.
- GRAZE, the new restaurant at Arrowhead Country Club in Glendale, Arizona, and the Ring of Honor Kitchen and Bar, the gastropub at Cowboys Golf Club in Grapevine, Texas, were honored with global Golden Fork Awards from Golf Inc. magazine.
